Some
Features of the Heidelberg District
The picturesque Yarra
Valley has long been a great attraction for artists, and some of Australia's
finest artists have been drawn to the Heidelberg district. In the 1880's,
Streeton, Condor and Roberts boarded nearby and produced some of the finest
Australian landscape paintings. In the 1940s and 50s, Sydney Nolan used
the local scenery as a backdrop to many of his paintings. Nolan painted his
famous Ned Kelly series at Heide, the home of John and Sunday Reed and
the gathering place of many of Australia's great post-war artists.
Heide is now a museum of modern art,
with a lively exhibition program. Heidelberg Primary School is able to
take advantage of this facility as the Museum is a pleasant walk from the
school. The school is also fortunate to have easy access to the extensive
Warringal Parklands which adjoin the huge parks along the Yarra River.
The wetlands here provide a good basis for environmental studies.
Heidelberg
is a thriving community. The school is proud of its links with the nearby
Warringal Shopping Centre and the Heidelberg Central Shopping Precinct,
where our children have been able to make regular musical performances
and displays of artworks.
La Trobe University and the Northern
Melbourne Institute of TAFE - Heidelberg Campus are nearby.
